Oat Groats are the de-hulled kernels of the oat grain. Groats are “whole grains” that include the cereal germ and fiber-rich bran portion of the grain. Oat Groats have a similar cooking time as whole wheat berries, and they have a full, nutty flavor and texture. They are a super wholesome and delicious breakfast cereal, and can be milled into a wonderful fine flour that is gluten-free. They’re perfect for use in place of rice for pilafs, or for cold grain salads (think Tabbouleh!).
(Note: Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in foods that contain dietary fiber, particularly soluble fiber, may reduce the risk of heart disease. Oat groats are a good source of fiber and iron and can help you feel fuller longer. Oats may also help reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, since their soluble fiber helps control blood sugar.)
FOOD STORAGE RECOMMENDATION: Please note that Oat Groats in air-tight containers with oxygen packs will store for 10-15 years, unlike wheat that will store for 30 years. Studies recommend 400 lbs of grains per adult/per year as part of a balanced subsistence diet. Some sources recommend 25 lbs of Oats as part of that, but for gluten-intolerant individuals you would want to increase that to make up for a lack of wheat. Our 4-gallon heavy-duty stackable square buckets are strongly recommended for storage purposes!! They are lined with air-tight RE-SEALABLE 5 ml Mylar bags and have Oxygen Pack inserts to keep them fresh, delicious, and pest-free for 10-15 years!
AVAILABLE IN: 4 lb bag — 25 lb bag — and 4 gallon bucket (approx. 25+ lbs.)
