To meet popular demand we’ve arranged with one of our organic growers to buy most of his 2021 crop. Our organic wheat is a traditional variety of hard red winter wheat that we’ve worked with for years… you will NOT be disappointed. It has 12% protein content insuring good dough strength and crumb. As with all our wheats, our organic red has been lab tested to insure it’s pure and chemical free!Certified Organic – By the USDA, we grow only Non GMO varieties, and use No Additives.
- Utah and Idaho: Grown by our friends and family farmer neighbors in Utah and Idaho.
- Chemical Free: Tested for purity in an ISO 17025 US based lab, certified free of 210 chemicals.
- Live Seed: 90% or better germination, ideal for sprouting, juicing or planting,
- 25 year shelf life: Packaged in a 5 mil mylar bag to keep oxygen & moisture free; then nested into a sealed stackable 4 gallon food safe pail with handle.
- Real Food | Better Life: All of our foods are single ingredient, whole foods that retain the natural goodness from the soil. All are packed to be powerfully nutritious whether used today or in 25 years.
Fantastic bread-making wheat!! Our wheat has been lab-tested for it’s excellent bread-making qualities and protein content. (Some of our customers have had unfortunate experiences with other suppliers’ storage wheat, so we want to say that right up front!) Our wheat is ideal for bread-making flour, or course ground for cereal, or sprouted to add to salads. Wheat provides a high fiber, nutrient dense basic carbohydrate. Red wheat has a bit more hardy, earthy flavor when made into bread, than does the white wheat. (And if you’re making bread… be sure to add our VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN to your cart for the best rise, elasticity, and moistness for your bread, and to keep it fresh longer!)
Try sprouting! Sprouting wheat berries improves the nutrient profile resulting in significantly higher protein, vitamins and enzymes. Also, the complex starches are converted into natural sugars…thus lowering the glycemic index, slowing digestion keeping the blood sugar levels stable for longer.
FOOD STORAGE RECOMMENDATION: Wheat, the “staff of life,” is the foundation component of your storage program. Studies recommend 300-400 lbs of GRAINS per adult/per year as part of a balanced subsistence diet (this includes wheat, oats, rice, pasta, and corn meal). It’s good to have a variety, of course, but because most bread flours are made from wheat many sources recommend up to 200 lbs of wheat per adult per year. (For gluten-intolerant individuals, our Oat Groats and Rice make wonderful flour). Our 4-gallon heavy-duty stackable square buckets are strongly recommended for storage purposes!! They are lined with air-tight Mylar bags* and have Oxygen Pack inserts to keep them fresh, delicious, and pest-free for 30 years!
AVAILABLE IN: 20 lb. long-term storage bucket, sealed in 5 mil RE-SEALABLE* Mylar liner
If you have any questions please call and we will be so happy to help!
*Re-Sealable (so… use it up as you go!)
The Mylar is heat-sealed (which makes the bag re-sealable). The sealed Mylar will stay air-tight if it’s not punctured. Because it is re-sealable you can snip a corner off the bag, pour out as much product as you’ll use in the next few months, then quickly* re-seal the Mylar and send your food back into long-term storage. The oxygen pack should continue to do its job as long as you re-seal the Mylar as quickly as possible.*IMPORTANT: If your bag is left open for more than 30 minutes, you will want to toss in a new oxygen pack before re-sealing to ensure long-term freshness. If you have opened and re-sealed multiple times, and want to store the remainder for many years, you will want to put in a new oxygen pack.
